Women Human Rights Defenders working on sexual rights in international and regional human rights mechanisms
5 March 2019, 13:00-14:00
Palais des Nations Room XXV Women human rights defenders working to advance sexual rights in regional and international human rights bodies confront many of the same systems of patriarchy, capitalism, racism, militarism and colonialism they are fighting against at the local level. This side-event will explore how WHRDs have engaged within the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) and the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) to advance sexual rights, challenge the unbalanced power relations between North and South; state and non-state actors and create change despite the limitations of these spaces.
